The hotel takes its name from Gerpir, the easternmost headland of Iceland. There's plenty to do from here — hike to Páskahellir cave, drive the old road up to the Oddsskarð tunnel (closed now, but a lovely drive up to it), spend time in nature, and watch the weather change. Hótelið dregur nafn sitt af Gerpi, austasta höfða Íslands. Héðan er m.a. hægt að ganga að Páskahelli, keyra gamla veginn upp að Oddskarðsgöngum (ath. þau eru lokuð en gaman að keyra upp að þeim), njóta í náttúrunni og fylgjast með veðrinu breytast.

A marked walking trail begins at the car park at the far edge of Neskaupstaður, following the coast above the sea cliffs to a stairway that leads down to the rocky beach by the cave. From there you can carry on up and around past the cave, or head back the same way.Merkt gönguleið er frá bílaplani yst í Neskaupstað út með ströndinni ofan við sjávarbjörgin að stiga sem liggur niður í grýtta fjöruna við hellinn. Hægt er að ganga áfram og upp utan við hellinn eða fara sömu leið til baka.
Above the town of Neskaupstaður, great structures have been raised to guard against avalanches. Walking paths now run around them, and you can walk along the top of the barriers and take in the view over Norðfjörður.Ofan byggðarinnar í Neskaupstað eru risin mikil mannvirki til varnar ofanflóðum. Búið er að koma fyrir gönguleiðum í kring um mannvirkin og hægt er að ganga uppi á þeim og njóta útsýnisins yfir Norðfjörð.
Tryggvi Ólafsson, one of Iceland's best-known artists, was born in Neskaupstaður on 1 June 1940. Though he spent most of his life working in Copenhagen, he always kept strong ties to his hometown. His colourful, instantly recognisable style placed him among the pioneers of pop art in Iceland.Tryggvi Ólafsson, einn þekktasti myndlistarmaður þjóðarinnar, fæddist í Neskaupstað 1. júní 1940. Þótt hann starfaði lengstan hluta ævinnar í Kaupmannahöfn hélt hann ávallt sterkum tengslum við heimabæ sinn. Litríkur og auðþekkjanlegur stíll hans skipaði honum á meðal frumkvöðla popplistar á Íslandi.
